    0 Querying Data from MySQL

Save to delicious Saved by 0 users

In order to retrieve data from MySQL database server you use SELECT statement. Here is the simple form of it:
    SELECT column_name1,column_name2...
    FROM tables
    [WHERE conditions]
    [GROUP BY group
    [HAVING group_conditions]]
    [ORDER BY sort_columns]
    [LIMIT limits];
The SELECT statement has many option clauses which you can use these or not. If you use, the order has to be appear as shown.
To select all columns in a table you can use (*) notation instead of listing all column name. For example, if you need to query all the columns in offices table just execute this query:
    SELECT * FROM employees
Because of the long result so we don't listed here, you can see it on your PC. SELECT statement also allows you to to view some partial data of a table by listing columns' name after the SELECT keyword. For example if you need to view only first name, last name and job title of all employee you can do the following query :
    SELECT lastname,firstname,jobtitle
    FROM employees
The MySQL database server will return the record set like follows:
    +-----------+-----------+----------------------+
    | lastname | firstname | jobtitle |
    +-----------+-----------+----------------------+
    | Murphy | Diane | President |
    | Patterson | Mary | VP Sales |
    | Firrelli | Jeff | VP Marketing |
    | Patterson | William | Sales Manager (APAC) |
    | Bondur | Gerard | Sale Manager (EMEA) |
    | Bow | Anthony | Sales Manager (NA) |
    | Jennings | Leslie | Sales Rep |
    | Thompson | Leslie | Sales Rep |
    | Firrelli | Julie | Sales Rep |
    | Patterson | Steve | Sales Rep |
    | Tseng | Foon Yue | Sales Rep |
    | Vanauf | George | Sales Rep |
    | Bondur | Loui | Sales Rep |
    | Hernandez | Gerard | Sales Rep |
    | Castillo | Pamela | Sales Rep |
    | Bott | Larry | Sales Rep |
    | Jones | Barry | Sales Rep |
    | Fixter | Andy | Sales Rep |
    | Marsh | Peter | Sales Rep |
    | King | Tom | Sales Rep |
    | Nishi | Mami | Sales Rep |
    | Kato | Yoshimi | Sales Rep |
    | Gerard | Martin | Sales Rep |
    +-----------+-----------+----------------------+
23 rows in set (0.00 sec)

    WHERE Clause

WHERE clause enables you to select a particular rows which match its conditions or search criteria. In our example we can find the president of company by doing this query:
    SELECT firstname,lastname,email
    FROM employees
    WHERE jobtitle="president"
And of course MySQL returns the result
    +-----------+----------+------------------------------+
    | firstname | lastname | email |
    +-----------+----------+------------------------------+
    | Diane | Murphy | dmurphy@classicmodelcars.com |
    +-----------+----------+------------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

    DISTINCT

With DISTINCT keyword, you can eliminate the duplicated result from SELECT statement. For example, to find how many job title of all employee in employees table, we use DISTINCT keyword in SELECT statement like below:
    SELECT DISTINCT jobTitle FROM employees;
And here are all job titles the employee has
    +----------------------+
    | jobTitle |
    +----------------------+
    | President |
    | VP Sales |
    | VP Marketing |
    | Sales Manager (APAC) |
    | Sale Manager (EMEA) |
    | Sales Manager (NA) |
    | Sales Rep |
    +----------------------+
7 rows in set (0.00 sec)

    GROUP BY

If you need to find number of employee who hold each job, you can use GROUP BY clause. GROUP BY clause allows use to retrieve rows in group. Here is the query example:
    SELECT count(*), jobTitle
    FROM employees
    GROUP BY jobTitle;
    And here is the result
    +----------+----------------------+
    | count(*) | jobTitle |
    +----------+----------------------+
    | 1 | President |
    | 1 | Sale Manager (EMEA) |
    | 1 | Sales Manager (APAC) |
    | 1 | Sales Manager (NA) |
    | 17 | Sales Rep |
    | 1 | VP Marketing |
    | 1 | VP Sales |
    +----------+----------------------+
7 rows in set (0.02 sec)

    HAVING Clause

HAVING clause usually use with GROUP BY clause to selecting a particular of group. For example:
    SELECT count(*), jobTitle
    FROM employees
    GROUP BY jobTitle
    HAVING count(*) = 1
This query select the job in the company for which we have one employee in each job title. HAVING clause select all group which have count(*) equal 1. Here is the output:
    +----------+----------------------+
    | count(*) | jobTitle |
    +----------+----------------------+
    | 1 | President |
    | 1 | Sale Manager (EMEA) |
    | 1 | Sales Manager (APAC) |
    | 1 | Sales Manager (NA) |
    | 1 | VP Marketing |
    | 1 | VP Sales |
    +----------+----------------------+
6 rows in set (0.00 sec)

    Sorting with ORDER BY

The ORDER BY clause allows you to sort the result set on one or more column in ascending or descending order. To sort the result set in ascending order you use ASC and in descending order you use DESC keywords. By default, the ORDER BY will sort the result set in ascending order. For example, to sort the name of employee on the first name and job title you can execute the following query:
    SELECT firstname,lastname, jobtitle
    FROM employees
    ORDER BY firstname ASC,jobtitle DESC;

    +-----------+-----------+----------------------+
    | firstname | lastname | jobtitle |
    +-----------+-----------+----------------------+
    | Andy | Fixter | Sales Rep |
    | Anthony | Bow | Sales Manager (NA) |
    | Barry | Jones | Sales Rep |
    | Diane | Murphy | President |
    | Foon Yue | Tseng | Sales Rep |
    | George | Vanauf | Sales Rep |
    | Gerard | Hernandez | Sales Rep |
    | Gerard | Bondur | Sale Manager (EMEA) |

    | Leslie | Jennings | Sales Rep |
    | Leslie | Thompson | Sales Rep |
    | Loui | Bondur | Sales Rep |
    | Mami | Nishi | Sales Rep |
    | Martin | Gerard | Sales Rep |
    | Mary | Patterson | VP Sales |
    | Pamela | Castillo | Sales Rep |

0 The origin of some famous tech firms' logos

Save to delicious Saved by 0 users

Bangalore: The logos of the largest tech firms are some of the most recognizable brands in the world. But where do the logos come from? And what do they mean? The history behind some of tech world's most recognizable corporate images are revealed by Techradar.com.

    Adobe Systems

Adobe was founded in late 1982 by John Warnock and Charles Geschke. Both worked for Xerox PARC and wanted to develop PostScript - the first major step towards the desktop publishing revolution. The name came from Adobe Creek in Los Altos, California. The fledgling company didn't have much money and employed all means possible to save it - Geschke's 80-year-old father prepared shelving for their office, while Marva Warnock (John's wife) designed the company logo.

Doug Brotz, also from Xerox and Adobe's fourth staffer, said: "Of all the companies that came out of PARC, I thought that this one was guaranteed to fail." But after PostScript, Adobe Illustrator appeared with Photoshop following in 1989. The second logo shows a progression from the original while retaining some of the "A" characteristics.

    Apple

Most people think the original Apple logo was the striped Apple, but they'd be wrong. It was the intriguing black-and-white Isaac Newton 1976 design. It was drawn by Ronald Wayne, often described as the 'Third Founder' of Apple. He gave up his 10 percent share in the company for just $800 after only two weeks, as he didn't want to get saddled with debt.

Co-founder Steve Jobs was worried that the logo wasn't helping the slow sales of the Apple I. Rob Janoff of the Regis McKenna agency was employed and came up with the iconic logo, which was refreshed as the monochrome logo we have today in the late 1990s. Interestingly, rumor has it that the bite out of the Apple is in homage to Alan Turing, a forefather of Computer Science who committed suicide by eating a cyanide-laced apple, but Janoff says he was swayed by the bite/byte concept.

    Atari

While some might think the Atari logo is supposed to look like an "A", it actually is designed to replicate Mount Fuji. Indeed the logo was known as the 'Fuji.' Atari Founder Nolan Bushnell was a fan of the ancient strategy game Go, played on the lower slopes of the mountain.

    Canon

Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory changed name several times before it became Canon Camera Company in 1947. The original Kwanon brand was never released.

And like many other old brands, Canon hasn't changed its logo for years - the version still in use today was designed in 1955 though a similar design had been used since 1953. Interestingly, the sharpened "C" was bespoke and didn't exist in any standard typefaces.

    Google

Stanford University graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin renamed their BackRub search engine as Google, a play on the word Googol (1 followed by 100 zeros). Brin created the first logo using GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) before an exclamation mark was added to the design echoing a certain other search engine with a funny name.

The still-used and instantly recognizable logo of today was created in 1999 by Stanford Consultant Art Professor Ruth Kedar. "There were a lot of different color iterations," says Kedar in David Vise's The Google Story. "We ended up with the primary colors, but instead of having the pattern go in order, we put a secondary color on the L, which brought back the idea that Google doesn't follow the rules." The guy who designs the Google Doodles is Dennis Hwang.

    Microsoft

In 1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen called their partnership "Micro-soft" and came up with the first logo for the future software giant.

As Microsoft aggressively marketed MS DOS in the early 1980s, it came up with the second logo - the one with the striped "O". Colloquially at Microsoft, it was known as the "Blibbet."

In 1987 Scott Baker morphed the logo into today's Microsoft logo with its slashed "O" instead. On a 2005 blog page, Microsoft employee Larry Osterman reminisces: "When Microsoft announced that it would be retiring the blibbet, a number of employees mounted a fruitless 'Save the Blibbet' campaign to retain the corporate icon. Unfortunately, the suits won. "Apparently the slash between the "o" and the "s" is designed to accentuate the "soft" part of the name.

    Palm

Quite a history lies behind Palm. Established in 1992, U.S. Robotics bought it, who were in turn bought by 3com before it was spun off. The company then split and palmOne was then the name of the hardware arm. In between, the Founder Jeff Hawkins left to start Handspring.

Handspring and palmOne then merged and bought the operating system side of the business back. It's now just plain old Palm. The upshot of the upheaval is that the company had three different logos over the course of three years 2003-2005. Palm says its latest logo is designed to reflect the brand equity still remaining in the blue logo, while updating the typeface to one more suitable for the digital age.

    Samsung

The 1993 rebranding of Samsung was designed as a new era for the company - one that has seen the Korean giant become one of the world's biggest consumer electronics companies. The elliptical design is supposed to symbolize the world moving through space. According to the company, "The first letter, 'S,' and the last letter, 'G,' partially break out of the oval to connect the interior with the exterior, showing Samsung's desire to be one with the world and to serve society as a whole."

    Sony

One of the most recognizable brands in the world, the Sony logo was originally encased inside a square in 1955. But by the 1960s it had broken out and began its gradual modification to the design we still see today. In 1961 Sony Designer Yasuo Kuroki was asked to work on a new version of the logo in order for it to be displayed in neon in Hong Kong that year and by 1962 Sony had even come up with corporate identity rules for the use of the logo. Today's version dates back to 1973. In 1981 a change was proposed, but it never happened.

    0 MySQL Table Types

Save to delicious Saved by 0 users

MySQL supports various of table types or storage engines to allow you to optimize your database. The table types are available in MySQL are:
    • ISAM
    • MyISAM
    • InnoDB
    • BerkeleyDB (BDB)
    • MERGE
    • HEAP
The most important feature to make all the table types above distinction is transaction-safe or not. Only InnoDB and BDB tables are transaction safe and only MyISAM tables support full-text indexing and searching feature. MyISAM is also the default table type when you create table without declaring which storage engine to use. Here are some major features of each tabletypes:

    ISAM

ISAM had been deprecated and removed from version 5.x. All of it functionality entire replace by MyISAM. ISAM table has a hard size 4GB and is not portable.

    MyISAM

MyISAM table type is default when you create table. MyISAM table work very fast but not transaction-safe. The size of MyISAM table depends on the operating system and the data file are portable from system to system. With MyISAM table type, you can have 64 keys per table and maximum key length of 1024 bytes.

    InnoDB

Different from MyISAM table type, InnoDB table are transaction safe and supports row-level locking. Foreign keys are supported in InnoDBtables . The data file of InnoDB table can be stored in more than one file so the size of table depends on the disk space. Like the MyISAM table type, data file of InnoDB is portable from system to system. The disadvantage of InnoDB in comparison with MyISAM is it take more disk space.

    BDB

BDB is similar to InnoDB in transaction safe. It supports page level locking but data file are not portable.

    MERGE

Merge table type is added to treat multiple MyISAM tables as a single table so it remove the size limitation from MyISAM tables.

    HEAP

Heap table is stored in memory so it is the fastest one. Because of storage mechanism, the data will be lost when the power failure and sometime it can cause the server run out of memory. Heaptables do not support columns with AUTO_INCREMENT, BLOB and TEXT characteristics.

0 Who is the BEST | IBM, Wipro or TCS?

Save to delicious Saved by 0 users

Who is the BEST - IBM, Wipro or TCS?

One day, three consultants, one from Wipro, one from IBM and one from TCS, went out for a walk.

"Why don't we prove who is the best among ourselves?"

Why not, said the other two.

The IBMr said "Let's have a test. Whoever makes this monkey laugh, works for the best firm".

Being a pure logical strategist, the person from TCS tried to make the monkey Laugh by telling jokes. The monkey stayed still. As a more practical consultant, the Wipro guy tried to make funny gestures... No good, the monkey stayed put. Now, comes the IBMr. Being the practical guy he was always trained to be, he whispered something into the monkey's ear, and it burst out laughing at him. The other two were astonished.

So the Wipro guy said "OK, let's take another test. Let's make this monkey cry!!"

So there they went again, applying the same methods as before. The TCS guy narrated sad stories, the Wipro guy made sad gestures, and they failed again.

Then, the IBMr again whispered something into the monkey's ear and oh! It started crying, patting the Infosian's shoulder! The other two just could not believe their eyes!

So the tcs guy said "OK, you've won twice. If you can win just this one, we will bow to you. Let's make this monkey run".

And he barked at the monkey and ordered him to run. Of course, it stayed where it was.. The Wipro guy, true to his type, pushed and prodded the monkey- still No go. So...here comes IBMr, again, and whispers into the monkey's ear. The Monkey just takes off! It runs and runs as fast as it can, as if it was scared to death! The other two surrendered.

They Said: "OK, we give up. You're the best among us, and you work for the Best firm of the three. But please, please tell us your secret," they begged him.

"Well", said the IBMr , "The first time I made it laugh, I told I work for IBM . The next time, I told the monkey how much I get paid ...so it started crying. And then I told that I was here for recruitment !!!"

0 Honda coming with Electric Motorcycle By 2010

Save to delicious Saved by 0 users

Honda coming with Electric Motorcycle By 2010
In one of speech, Honda CEO Takeo Fukui recently said, "Honda is currently developing a battery-powered electric motorcycle which emits no CO2 during operation, because the characteristics of a battery can be better utilized in the area of motorcycles, which are often used for short distance travel. Honda is aiming to introduce this electric motorcycle to the market about two years from now."
Well, this is going to be ideal vehicle for Indian roads provided its price is reachable and range is not limited. I am sure Honda is going to take care of these issues if it plans to launch this motorcycle in India. Bikes are one of cheapest and widely used form of transportation in India. This bike would be ideal for crowded Indian roads both for commuters and commercial users.
Bikes are primarily used for short distance travel which makes a battery powered bikes an ideal machine.
In the uncertain times this is going to be a great move from Honda as its motorcycle business is almost recession-proof. Motorcycle is the first and original core product of Honda and it knows that if the new bike gives cost-efficiency to buyers, it is going to attract a huge new customer segment in the emerging markets like India.
Bikes are cheap, easy to own, easy to use, easy to park, less noisy. Well, if it is electric powered then nothing like it.
